Mr Roehrs is a highly regarded occupational therapist with an extensive history of functional assessment and occupational and MVA rehabilitation. He has been providing assessments for courts for 20 years and has made expert appearances on multiple occasions. Mr Roehrs undertook his occupational therapy degree at the University of Queensland, completing one of his practicums in Vancouver, Canada. He initially worked for Veterans' Affairs after graduating and then went on to work in London's Ealing Hospital. On returning to Australia, he worked in the area of head injury rehabilitation, managed a research project in relation to stroke patients, and then ran center-based rehabilitation programs. His reports also address the potential of prior injury on current function, the likelihood of improvement and treatment needs, gratuitous care, the need for ongoing personal or domestic assistance and the requirement of aids or home equipment. Also, if the plaintiff is not in employment, the possibility of gainful employment and any training requirements.
Mr Roehrs has treated or been involved in the rehabilitation of numerous conditions, including: whiplash, back strain, disc injuries, head injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke, degloving, amputations, fractures, joint injuries and replacements.
Mr Roehrs' vast knowledge of functional job demands as an occupational therapist has been gained over many years of undertaking ergonomic, and safety and rehabilitation on-site is a significant advantage when providing expert opinion on an individual's ability to perform work roles.
