What to Bring and Wear


  • Photo Identification

You will need to provide photo identification to enable a copy to be taken so please bring your driver's licence or passport.

  • X–rays

If your injury or illness is of a physical nature 

It may be necessary for you to disrobe to your underwear. Gowns are provided. Female patients may have an adult companion with them during the examination, or they may request the presence of a female member of the Medilaw staff. Alternatively you can wear appropriate clothing as listed below.

  • Underwear must be worn 

Our specialist consultant will need to uncover the relevant area to examine it properly.

Male Claimants

For examination of:

  • Hand & Elbow - please wear a short sleeve shirt
  • Shoulder - any type of shirt is okay. Our specialist consultant may ask you to remove the shirt during the consultation
  • Spine - any type of shirt is okay. Our specialist consultant may ask you to remove the shirt if needed during the consultation
  • Legs - please wear shorts as our specialist consultant will often need to examine your legs
  • Hips - please wear shorts
  • Knees - please wear shorts. Our specialist consultant will need to examine most of your thigh during the assessment. If you wear long trousers, you may be asked to remove them
  • Feet - shorts are best but long trousers are acceptable if they are relatively loose and can be easily rolled up to the knee. You will need to remove your shoes.

Female Claimants

Wearing a pair of bike pants or leggings is most helpful so you don't have to undress. For examination of:

  • Hand & Elbow - please wear something with short sleeves;
  • Shoulder - the best thing is a sleeveless top with an easily removed jacket, particularly if you are susceptible to the cold. Please avoid a long sleeve blouse as you may need to remove it to adequately examine your shoulder;
  • Spine - the best option is a blouse and medium length skirt, or loose-fitting trousers. Shorts or bike pants are suitable
  • Hips - a medium length skirt or loose-fitting trousers. Shorts or bike pants are suitable
  • Knees - a medium length skirt or loose-fitting trousers. Shorts or bike pants are okay. Our specialist consultant needs to examine most of your thigh during the assessment. Please avoid wearing long, tight pants or jeans;
  • Feet - a medium length skirt or loose-fitting trousers. Shorts or bike pants are suitable. Our specialist consultant will need to examine from your knees down to your feet.
