Dr Peter McCombe

Summary

Dr Peter McCombe has undertaken a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1977, at University of Queensland. He then became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1987 as an Orthopaedic Surgeon. He has restricted his practice to adult spinal surgery for the last 20 years. Dr McCombe has participated in the Guidelines to Evaluate Permanent Impairment and is accredited to conduct permanent impairment assessments.

Dr McCombe currently holds the position of Director in his private practice, as well as Senior Visiting Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Dr McCombe is also a Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. He is Chairman of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (Queensland branch) and the Department of Orthopaedics at Royal Brisbane and Women’ss Hospital. Dr McCombe’ss previous roles include Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital, Brisbane as well as President and Secretary of the Spine Society of Australia.

Dr McCombe has a special interest in conditions of the spine. He has designed and patented two implants, leading to successful manufacture; they are now commonly used in spinal fusion surgery. Dr McCombe continually undertakes research in spinal matters and has been published in several publications, such as the European Spine Journal. He also regularly presents at conferences worldwide, with his most recent being the Ageing Spine Symposium in Melbourne. Dr McCombe consults in Brisbane on a monthly basis, assessing spinal conditions and injuries only.
